Is starting your own home-based internet marketing business on your “To Do” list for 2010? If so, there are several things you need to take into consideration. You can decide your business hours, but you need to make a solid commitment to be available when you say you are going to be. If you think that a home-based business means working when you “want” to, perhaps you need to reconsider this venture.
What equipment do you need to carry out your business, i.e., computer, printer, office supplies, office furniture, etc. It is imperative to keep good financial records in this area. Put all of your receipts in a file that will be readily accessible when you need them at tax time.
What marketing strategies will you employ? Decide on your promotional materials, business cards, etc. What will you use for a logo? If you are not able to create these materials you will need to consider hiring someone to help you.
How will you promote your business? Do you have a web hosting service? You will need to generate web pages to promote your presence on the internet. Do your talents include HTML code and creating lead capture pages? Will you be creating your own web pages?
What type of e-mail service provider do you have? Does your provider accommodate bulk e-mailing? Be sure to follow FTC’s rules against spam e-mails. Some e-mail services have regulations governing bulk e-mailing. These are all things you will have to research to be sure your business is legitimate.
Dev elop a contact list. Who will you contact to “announce” your new business? A good place to start is with your friends, family, past co-workers, and neighbors. Word of mouth is still a powerful advertising/marketing tool. If you are going to sign up with a service tht provides leads, make sure they have a good reputation in this category. I can tell you from past experience a lot of money can be spent in this area with poor, or no results.
